Introduction to Failure Mode and Effects Analysis

Customer failures will damage your brand, drive unexpected costs, and delay revenue while you develop design modifications and retest, then repair existing or build new products. Not where you you want to be! Even failures when testing your prototypes can lead to long delays to accommodate design modifications, a new build cycle, and a retest.

You need a tool to reduce these costs and time-to-market delays.

Fortunately, there is a well-established tool available to reduce your risks and increase your chance of a successful launch. Design Failure Mode & Effects Analysis or DFMEA is a structured approach to identify a prioritized list of potential failure modes before they occur and develop a plan to address them before you release your design and build product.

This class will cover why you need to use DFMEA and how to do it. We will walk through the various components of the tool and when to apply it. After the overview, we will workshop developing a DFMEA for your product. Please come prepared to start developing or extending a test plan unique to your product.

Prerequisites:

  • Product Requirements Document

  • Discussion with EIR of failure severities in your product category
