(WEBINAR) WOMEN IN TECH: FOUNDERS EDITION

In 2019, 20% of newly funded startups had a female founder. While this number continues to increase overtime, there continues to be an alarming gap in the number of female founders as compared to their male counterparts.

During this virtual event, five female founders from a variety of industries and backgrounds will share inspiring lightning talks on how they reached their level of success despite obstacles they faced along the way.

Felicia Shakespeare Photo

Felicia Shakespeare is a native Chicagoan who has achieved success in both the business and the education sectors. She is an author, international speaker, educator and entrepreneur. Felicia’s career experience spans through years of working for Fortune 500 companies and for the third largest school district in America. Felicia’s mission is to inspire others to be intentional about living a life of faith and purpose. She is the Founder of A Purpose Driven Woman LLC, a personal development company focused on providing a safe space for women to receive business, personal and professional growth resources for their business and in life through online and offline platforms. Some of her pivotal business exposure came while working for tech icon IBM Corporation in the areas of Sales, Operations and Account Management in the Global Financing and Global Services Divisions. After a successful career at IBM Felicia redirected her professional training to a career in education for the classroom, in the Professional Development of school and teacher leaders. Felicia has held a number of successful roles at both the school and the central office district level both in tech, teaching and administration. She often says that she is “in the business of educating.”

Felicia is the recipient of the WNBA Chicago Sky’s Redefine Possible Women’s Leadership Award, the Dream Conference Aspiring Entrepreneur Award, and was selected as Author of the Year Finalist in the small business category for her independently published book “You Are Your Brand: Building From the Inside Out!” Felicia in May 2018 founded “mClass: Master Mentor Motivate” the signature women’s empowerment community powered by A Purpose Driven Woman LLC. This year her second A Purpose Driven Woman Conference will be held on Saturday November 9, 2019 in Atlanta, Georgia. She is also the curator and host of the A Purpose Driven Woman Podcast which she shares powerful insights and a mix of a high quality line up of guest entrepreneurs, career and ministry professionals.

Felicia has spoken for several thriving women and entrepreneurial focused organizations to include; FWD (For Women & Diversity) Collective, Dress For Success Worldwide Success Summit, Top Ladies of Distinction Leadership Conference, The Black Women’s Expo, Anita Borg and more. She has recently developed partnerships and facilitated brand development workshops for top organizations like Penske Corporation, i.c. Stars and the Chicago Public Library. She enjoys family, life and new travel experiences.

Her background includes local, national,and global experience working at the senior level. Claritza has held positions at companies such as the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the Federal Reserve Bank System, State Street Corporation, Cambridge College and many others.

A lifelong community leader supporting public health, research, STEM education, mentorship, civic engagement and social justice issues, Claritza’s professional profile and personal journey has been featured in several local and national media outlets. Her story has been told in the Boston Business Journal, National Public Radio (NPR), the Library of Congress and most recently in the National Latina Style Magazine’s -Women in STEM section.

As an immigrant from the Dominican Republic, Claritza was recognized by the President of the Dominican Republic as a meritorious Dominican abroad. Her picture is featured at the “Dreams of Freedom” Immigrant Museum, at the Top of Hub in Boston’s Prudential building.

A successful role model, Claritza holds a bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering, a master’s degree in Computer Information Systems from Boston University and several graduate certifications in technology, leadership and public administration from NYU and Suffolk University. She is pursuing an MBA from West Virginia University.

Building on her 15 years of corporate experience and her MBA in entrepreneurship, Ina started her own side business in web development before making her mark as a career transition coach.

Ina has been featured in USA Today, business.com, and CEO Blog Nation. In addition to hosting her own podcast, Trailblazing Out of Corporate Life, she has been featured on She Breaks Thru, She’s Making An Impact, and Biz Babes with Soul. This summer she partnered with Staples to launch a series of podcasting classes in studios across their Boston stores. Ina lives in the Greater Boston area with her husband and two young sons.

Adelle has been featured on both Inc and Forbes coveted ’30 Under 30′ lists. Prior to founding Eterneva, Adelle received her MBA in Entrepreneurship at the Acton School of Business, considered the ‘navy seal’ program for entrepreneurs. At only 23, she graduated valedictorian of her class. She spent four years as a Product Marketing leader in Tech, launching major products to market with partners like Amazon, Ebay, Square, Facebook, Pinterest, and Twitter.

Kim Jean is the founder and CEO at Mossum, a consumer goods company in Chicago that makes products with the edible algae sea moss. On a mission to get consumers to eat and drink sea moss, she is focused on improving education about its many nutritional benefits, ease of use and creating disruption in the food space with innovative family friendly products.

Before taking on her dream fulltime, Miss Jean spent 3 years as Business Development Manager at Catalyst Ranch, an offsite meeting and events venue in the West Loop. There she developed an entire calendar of events for the company and helped spear-head an expansive business development program that increased the number of inquiries for meeting and events 10 fold, and was integral in the company’s overall steady revenue increase from year to year.

In the years prior to that, Miss Jean worked as an independent contractor with 220 Communications, Jessica’s Natural Foods, and Room 2 Play. She held marketing and administrative positions with these small businesses that has given her first-hand knowledge of the challenge of building a business. She has sat on executive boards, been a featured columnist, podcast creator and host, and scholarship creation leader.

Miss Jean was born in the Caribbean island Saint Lucia and has called Chicago home since 2002. She has a marketing communications degree from Columbia College Chicago.

She describes herself as an intellectual, believer and metropolitan island-girl. She is known for her brilliant smile and words of wisdom, including one of her own quotes: You always go back to what you know, which was integral to starting her business.

When she is not thinking about her business and helping others, Miss Jean likes to nap in the afternoon, foot soak, cook and host friends.
