Using its streaming and social data to unearth music trends for the past two years, music analytics firm Chartmetric is releasing its fourth free “6MO” semi-annual music industry report in January 2021. The Music Biz member company is excited to share their most recent findings: highlighting which artists and tracks broke out in the July-December 2020 timeframe, as well as delving deeper into its exploration of the concept of “trigger cities”, as coined by Chartmetric Chief Commercial Officer, Chaz Jenkins. Celebrating the global digital music environment, Chartmetric wrote extensively on the trigger cities concept in 2019, which discusses major cities in the Southeast Asian and Latin American regions as places to gain more exposure with effective ad spend, “trigger” social and streaming algorithmic benefits, and most importantly, win new fans from all cultures. This latest H2 2020 6MO report goes deeper into the music marketing concept, with the intent to make it more practical for artists of all sizes to take advantage of. “Music may be universal, but it hasn’t always been global — especially from the artist perspective. As more artists realize that where you live doesn’t determine where your audience lives, an understanding of global consumption trends coupled with the diversity of local cultural considerations becomes increasingly important. We hope that this 6MO report can help artists get a better foothold in the increasingly digital, data-driven, and borderless music landscape, giving them some tools to take control of their own careers.” Chat live with 6MO’s editors, Jason Joven (Manager, Content & Insights) and Rutger Ansley Rosenborg (Digital Marketing Lead) as they present the issue exclusively for Music Biz members and answer any member questions.
