Business owners turn to Bill to protect their life’s work. Preserving nearly a billion dollars in value, Bill’s success in litigation has come while safeguarding a variety of businesses, from start-ups to publicly traded companies. His clients leverage Bill’s experience in a wide range of complex commercial matters, including trade secrets, patent and trademark infringement, and breach of contract disputes to stand up for their businesses. As co-chair of the firm’s Data Protection and Information Privacy practice group, Bill is widely recognized for his vast experience in intellectual property protection. Bill regularly speaks to business leaders on issues regarding data protection, intellectual property preservation and litigation finance. Prior to joining Swanson, Martin & Bell, Bill was general counsel for Business Logic where he led a four-and-a half-year fight against Morningstar, resulting in a $61 million settlement for his client. He also served as general counsel for the fintech company NextCapital, where he advised the founders on corporate formation, software licensing, intellectual property protection and other corporate issues. Bill has spent the past 10 years as a volunteer and now a member of the board of directors of Chicago Lights, a Chicago not-for-profit that helps those experiencing homelessness.
